There is no intelligent way of looking at life without realizing that its all relative. And once you reach that conclusion, there is no intelligent way of living other than by forgetting what you just realized.
For us to take the right decisions, we need to believe that our choices matter. That the road we take will lead us to where we want to go. Otherwise, how does anything make any difference? If progress becomes a relative thing, we're all going around in circles.
I believe that all our lives are set on a particular course. This can be the result of our parentage, academic achievements or even greater chance; and this will take us inexorably to one final destination. It is this pull that we feel and call fate. And this course will not alter, unless there occurs a contradicting choice. And if this choice is followed by an action that is powerful enough, life will change. Onto a new course. Inexorable.. again.
In itself, nothing has a place in the universe. Sensations are felt with respect to other sensations, relationships are defined in terms of previous experiences and peer comparisons. Someone is a genius only because others around him are not. If mediocrity were to achieve excellence, then the excellent would become mediocre.
Our life is like a great prolonged coin toss. At first, we're all just shiny new coins. Then we're tossed, and we circle in the air..for months and years. Through school, college, career choices; then we hit the ground and start rolling. All of society watches as we bump into obstacles and change our course, until finally, we roll to a stop, and show to the world what we've ended up as. And its either what they were expecting, or what they weren't. Not good or bad. Not success or failures. Just heads or tails.
